Vacuum Cleaner Bags in NZ: Buyer's Guide
A vacuum bag collects the dust and dirt your vacuum picks up. Fitting the right one keeps suction strong and stops dust escaping back into your home. Bags are made for specific vacuums, so the right bag depends on your brand, model and bag type. We are a New Zealand owned business, and we stock vacuum cleaner bags for Miele, LG, Electrolux, AEG, Bosch, Nilfisk, Fisher & Paykel, Delonghi and Haier, including paper dust bags, cloth bags and bag and filter sets. We also list bag holders for some Miele, Bosch, Electrolux, Nilfisk and LG models.
Check these first
Weak suction is not always caused by a full bag, so check these before you order:
- A full bag is the most common cause, so replace it first.
- A blocked hose can cause the same problem. See our vacuum hoses.
- Dirty or clogged filters restrict airflow even with a fresh bag. See our vacuum filters.
- If a new bag will not sit properly or clip into place, the bag holder may be cracked or worn. See our vacuum bag holders.
How to find the right vacuum bag for your vacuum cleaner
Start with your vacuum's model number. On most vacuums it is on a rating label on the underside or back of the machine, or under the bag compartment lid, and it is also in the manual. Many brands print a bag type or code on the box or the bag itself, such as Miele GN, Bosch Type G or a Nilfisk series name, and matching this is the surest way to get the right fit. Compare it with the models or series in each product title.
Do not assume bags are interchangeable between brands. Bag size, collar shape and opening differ, and a bag that nearly fits can leak dust or restrict airflow. Some bags suit several brands, for example our Fisher & Paykel, Delonghi and Haier bags come in small (280 x 180 mm) and large (350 x 240 mm) sizes. Also check the pack size in the title, as many bags are sold in multi-packs of four, five or ten.
Types of vacuum bag
| Type | What it is | Things to check |
|---|---|---|
| Paper dust bags | Disposable bags that are thrown away when full, such as the Nilfisk, Bosch and LG paper bags we list | Match the bag type or series to your vacuum, and replace when full or when suction drops |
| Bag and filter sets | Bag packs that include a filter, such as Miele Hyclean 3D bags or Nilfisk bags with a motor filter | Fit the new filter when you change the bag, and check the title to see what is included |
| Anti-odour bags | Bags designed to help with smells, such as Electrolux and AEG S-Bag Anti Odour bags | Check that your vacuum takes this bag type before you order |
| Cloth and reusable bags | Bags that are emptied and reused, such as the LG cloth bags we list | Empty carefully to avoid dust, and replace if the bag becomes worn or torn |
Change the bag when it is full, when suction drops or when your vacuum's bag-full indicator shows, and do not wait until it splits. Your manual will give the recommended point and any filter schedule.
Fitting tips
- Switch off and unplug the vacuum at the wall before you open the bag compartment.
- Close the old bag's shutter if it has one, take it out carefully and put it in a sealed rubbish bag so the dust does not spill.
- Check the bag holder, seals and compartment for damage, and wipe out loose dust before you fit the new bag.
- Seat the new bag's collar fully onto the holder so it lines up with the intake, and fit any filter that came with the pack.
- Close the lid fully, as some vacuums will not run unless a bag is fitted and the lid is latched.
Changing a bag does not involve electrical work. If your vacuum has lost power or smells burnt, stop using it and have it checked by a qualified repairer.

Can I use a vacuum bag from a different brand?
Can I use a vacuum bag from a different brand?
Not unless the listing says it suits your vacuum. Bag size, collar shape and opening differ between brands, and a bag that almost fits can leak dust or restrict suction. Some bags do suit several brands, such as our Fisher & Paykel, Delonghi and Haier bags in small (280 x 180 mm) and large (350 x 240 mm) sizes.
How often should I change my vacuum bag?
How often should I change my vacuum bag?
Change the bag when it is full, when suction starts to drop, or when your vacuum's bag-full indicator shows, rather than waiting until it splits. A very full bag reduces airflow and can make the motor work harder. If your bag pack includes a filter, replace it at the same time, and check your manual for the recommended schedule.
What is the difference between paper bags, cloth bags and bags with filters?
What is the difference between paper bags, cloth bags and bags with filters?
Paper bags are disposable and are thrown away when full. Cloth bags, such as the reusable LG bags we list, are emptied and reused, and should be replaced if they become worn or torn. Some packs also include a motor or pre-motor filter, so check the product title to see whether a filter is included.
Why has my vacuum lost suction after fitting a new bag?
Why has my vacuum lost suction after fitting a new bag?
Check that the bag collar is fully seated on the holder and the lid is closed properly, as a poorly fitted bag lets air and dust leak past it. A cracked or worn bag holder, a blocked hose or clogged filters can also cause weak suction even with a new bag. If suction is still weak after checking these, the vacuum may need a qualified repairer.
