Removing the Door
(Photos: Top hinge screw removal; split pin removal at bottom hinge)

You may need to remove the door for cleaning, servicing or reversing the hinge.

Steps to remove the door

  1. Unplug the fridge from power.

  2. Remove the sign panel if your model has one.

  3. Pull out the split pin from the capstan at the bottom hinge.

  4. Remove the top hinge screws and lift the door off.

Refitting the Door
(Photos: Door placed on bottom hinge; top hinge being aligned)

  1. Place the door back onto the bottom hinge.

  2. Fit the small spacer on top of the door.

  3. Install the top hinge loosely, align the door, then tighten the screws.

  4. Set the correct tension (see next section).

  5. Insert the split pin back into the capstan.

  6. Refit the height adjustment block and rotate it if the door needs leveling.

Adjusting Door Tension
(Photos: Capstan at bottom hinge; using tool to rotate capstan)

Your fridge door has a built-in torsion bar that helps the door close smoothly on its own. If the door feels too loose or doesn’t close properly, the tension may need adjusting.

Steps to adjust tension

  1. Remove the split pin from the bottom capstan.

  2. Remove the tension bracket.

  3. Using a strong tool, rotate the capstan against the opening direction until the slack is gone.

  4. Turn it an extra half turn (180 degrees) for proper tension.

  5. While holding it, refit the tension bracket.

  6. Insert the split pin.

  7. Test the door by opening it about 10 cm and letting go. It should close gently and seal tightly.

Replacing the Torsion Bar
(Photos: Removing capstan from door; new torsion bar installation)

If the door no longer holds tension even after adjustment, the torsion bar may need replacement.

  1. Remove the door.

  2. Remove the capstan, bush and washer from the bottom of the door.

  3. Cut the old torsion bar and push it inside the door frame.

  4. Fit the new torsion bar with its capstan parts.

  5. Refit the door.

Reversing the Door Hinge
(Photos: Door removed; hinge moved to opposite side; magnet relocation)

This applies to single-door models only. You can move the hinge to the other side if you prefer the door to open in the opposite direction.

Steps to reverse the hinge

  1. Remove the door.

  2. Move the door lock bracket on top of the cabinet to the other side.

  3. Remove the bottom hinge, tension bracket and adjustment block. You will reuse the bracket and block.

  4. Unplug the door switch cable.

  5. Fit the new bottom hinge on the opposite side.

  6. Move the door lock bracket on the door to the other end.

  7. Remove the bush and keep it for the opposite side.

  8. Remove the capstan assembly and disconnect it from the torsion bar. Push the torsion bar inside the door.

  9. Fit the new torsion bar and capstan parts to the opposite end.

  10. Fit the bush on the other side of the door.

  11. Move the door magnet to the other end. Make sure it sits flush and faces the right way.

  12. Remove any old labels and clean the door.

  13. Refit the door.
